Balsa Wood Sculpture

The intention behind the first sculpture was to emphasize pattern and symmetry. As far as the execution of said concepts, there's room for much improvement. The second is meant to emphasize the presence of a focal point with several rings around a central mass. I am more satisfied, but because of the materials, it was not as good as it could've been. The third was to be an emphasis on texture. The inside is an egg shaped piece of wood on each side surrounded by soft cushioning in the form of paper shredded and sanded wood. This I view as the most successful of the three.

Memento

Due to unfortunate , unforeseen circumstances, the final product was destroyed before the opportunity to photograph was present. The product was an open cube made of foam with hexagons in the sides to represent the molecular structure of snow, all white and roughened to have the texture of snow. The center was to be paper mache for the texture of fluffy snow and painted blood red. The sculpture represents he first snowy winter I remember experiencing and it being the time I learned I have terrible seasonal allergies and get terrible nosebleeds come winter.

Map relief

The map is created utilizing the stacking method with foam shaped and ink. It is designed to represent the biblical sea serpent Leviathan, hence the name Leviathan Islands. The backstory I created for the inspiration behind this project can be fond in the 3D to 2D post.

Masking tape shoe

Probably the most frustrating art project I've ever done. The way I got the shape of the different parts of the Converse All-star shoes used as the models. Opposite to my expectation, the first shoe in the pair came out more completed and stable than the second.

Animal soap carving

The animal of choice was a grey wolf. The creation process was interesting and frustrating. The soap can be used to mend itself. Following a method of making large and general oblong shapes and slowly working your way to the tighter shapes and patterns.

3D to 2D

"Long ago, during the dawn of the world at each cycle, powerful elemental creatures known as Primals ruled and wandered freely. One day, the primal which makes its domain in the water, known as Leviathan, met for fierce combat with another known as Ifrit, a cunning, trickster primal that lives and breathes fire and is said to bleed magma. The clash was so fierce that it stretched across the planet. And over the water Ifrit's and Leviathans clashes led to the formation of new island territories. At the end of their long clash, their energy was so spent that Ifrit retreated into the earth and sleeps in its magma. Leviathan rested in the waters on the sea floor and the lingering magma hardened around it as it slept, taking its shape. This, with the several millenia of sediment piling on its body, led to the formation of the Leviathan Islands."
This is a short story that I created to motivate me through this project and to commit to the concept.
